Stella Maris, Long Island, Bahamas.
Long Island is divided by the Tropic of Cancer and bordered by two very different coasts, the Atlantic side has rocky cliffs and caves that dip suddenly into the sea and the Caribbean with it's broad white beaches. Lots of dramatic, sloping hills dominate the northern end of the island while low, sweeping hillsides fall away down south .
Long Island is considered to be the most picturesque of all the Bahamian islands.
Recently we have seen a boom in development throughout the island resulting in a few small housing developments springing up. There is also rumoured to be a new multi-million dollar resort which is to be set around the Stella Maris area. The Long Island of today is very advanced compared to just a few years ago. For example, there are now electricity and telephone services running through the length of the island. Fresh running potable water is connected to lots of the major settlements. Satellite TV, reliable phone and DSL Internet connections, including the new GSM cellular service, are welcomed by locals, holiday makers and cruising sailors alike.
Communications here are first rate.
Latest news. The new real estate development named 'Port St George' has recently been granted government permission to develop 1000 acres of the property into a new, upscale marina and golf resort.
